two new projects

Found these ideas interesting and wanted to share them with my blogging  friends, the stepping stones I thought were interesting and a new twist from the traditional (very crafty) ,great to make a walk way, the turbine I love ,I will surely have one of these at the nursery soon,of course I will have to put a different touch to it,don't you just love seeing new ideas and taking them home and putting your own special style to it. The post with the signs is such a crafty little idea for your garden ,you could use old tin, metal shingles, boat paddles ,are maybe you have some interesting items just waiting to me made into cute little signs, great for names of your children and grandchildren, herbs, old boy friends HE HE! just use your imaginations and have fun, happy gardening and junking Kathy

talented friends

This  has been a very busy month so far, Cindy and I have been out and about taking pictures and visiting some of our friends and customers who share the gardening and junking passion that we do.  Makes me so happy to see the flea market treasures from my shop in their new homes. The picture with the watering can collection, we designed for our customer ,she has such a good eye for junk treasures but just needed a little help displaying her finds.  I really love this idea hope you will be inspired by it, you could use other items you may have in a collection,an example would be old bird cages, birdhouses, wind chimes, teapots ,the secret in having a lot of interesting things in  your garden and it not looking junky is GROUPING!

This is got to be similar to Heaven

I just returned from a fun time of junking and enjoying a road trip with a good friend, sooo hot ,but did not dampen our spirit,we started early and tried to catch the shade areas in later day. There was such a good selection of the thing we were looking for and plenty of other things we were not looking for but could not come home without. I found several new vendors that I conversed with that share the same junking passion.
Came home with some great little items that will be turned into some unique garden and home decor decorations, that will be for sale at our Fall festival (Autumn Joys in the Garden) date October 15 .We also sell at the November Arts and Craft show sponsored by our home town. This has been a busy two months of travel, work and all the other thing that come up in life,I hope to get some rest after October and maybe have time to work on the new magazine coming out in March .I will keep you posted on this new adventure.
So I will post a few more pictures, I hope you will enjoy and then I will get some much needed sleep, good night and happy junque gardening,Kathy.

pond fountain

Thought you  may enjoy this project ,fortunately we already had the pond ,so it was not a start from scratch project, you could also use an old bath tub for this project, just use your imagination. We started with an old garden gate which I decided to use blue for the primary color,we used metal clamps around the fence post and screwed them into the wood frame on the pond, next we layed our containers out ,you can use any old metal buckets holes are no problem because they do not hold any water,a watering can is great for the top.put your pump inside the pond and run the tubing up thru the bottom of the can (ours just happened to have a hole in the bottom) and out the spout. Stack your pans to look as if they are joined together and wire to the gate, some of ours are sitting on the side of the pond, plant with your favorite plants and enjoy.

repurposed bird feeder

this is a fun project using tractor disk found at a flea market and metal tubing found at the locale farm supply store. The disk have a hole already in them so all you need to do is turn one upside down for the stand and weld and the other disk will be the feeder turned right side up.After the welding of the base you will use your found flea market treasures to adorn it,(pot hangers, birds, butterflies, birds ,etc.) To paint I wanted a rusty patina so I lightly sprayed with outdoor rust primer and set out side for the weather to do the rest.
enjoy

garden inspiration

Fall is on the way

bottle tree legend

Legend of the bottle tree

This has become such a item for junkers and gardeners ,thought you might be interested in a little history, please be aware I am a Christian and as much as I enjoy these eclectic and interesting little pieces of art I do not believe this legend !! These whimsy little creations have their roots in Congo, they were brought over by the slaves, and began their migration all over the Southern landscape, found mostly along the countryside  close to the bayous in Louisiana, Mississippi,Tennessee, and Alabama.  In the Congo the blue bottles were hung from trees and huts as talisman to ward off evil spirits.  They believed that the spirits became mesmerized by the colors of the bottles sparkling in the sunlight and entered the bottles and were not able to find their way out,I have heard that they would put a cork i the bottle and put them in the waterways to be carried off (gee I wonder if this is why so many of those little bad spirits still hang out in the South??) Now you know the rest of the story what do you think???

girls gone junkin

I really get worried sometimes about this passion I have for junk,,I sometimes wonder if I am the only one ,but then I go to some of my favorite blog spots (robo lady) for instance and I realize other people are crazy too!!! So with this said this category will be very busy for me ,because I have lots to share .I have a special desire to buy anything crusty, rusty, chippy paint , worn and a little quirky, love the 60s and 70s ,retro ,architectual chic and on and on need I say more,so if  you too, are a little insane about beautiful junk take a look, happy junkin Kathy

container a great way to garden

I  have found that there are so many vintage and flea market finds that make the greatest little garden planters, just think out side the box and remember just because its a teapot it does not mean you just have to use it to make tea ,try adding a little dirt and a little plant and you have created an unusual garden piece.I hope this category will inspire you to be creative, happy planting Kathy
